DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Delray Beach city leaders marked the progress of the construction of an affordable housing complex Monday.

Funded with stimulus package dollars, the multi-million dollar development created hundreds of jobs and is designed to put roofs over the heads of area families.

The 144 unit development will consist of one, two and three bedroom apartments with a rental cost between $350 and a $1,000 dollars a month. The community developer, Auburn Communities, created an apprentice program that allowed them to hire local residents to work on the project during and after all phases of the construction.

"We really think this is going to be a wonderful community. Not only the jobs that were created...the stimulus to the local economy...but it's going to be a beautiful place for people to live," said Brian Hinner, CEO of Auburn Communities.

The developer hopes to have the first residents moved in by April 2011.
