BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - The paths of two senior citizens intersected in deadly fashion Friday night in front of a Boynton Beach drugstore.
One is dead, the other was taken to the hospital after a parking lot accident.
Police say Mary Elizabeth Bonnel, 76, of Boynton Beach, was in the crosswalk when she was hit by the van, driven by Marion Zeiler, 78, also of Boynton Beach.
"I was just saying it could have been me. I was just coming from Wal-Mart and I was going to use the bathroom at CVS," said Ionie Blake, who stopped to look at the aftermath.
Meredith Rosenfeld was inside the drugstore.
"I literally felt a shake. It was scary. Everyone ran from behind the pharmacy to see what was going on because we heard a woman screaming up front," said Rosenfeld.
Police say Bonnel was pinned underneath the minivan.
Rosenfeld says Zeiler was conscious afterwards, but not making sense.
"The woman was behind the wheel. She was screaming, very frightened, saying I want to go home, I want to get out of here and she's trying to get the car, the minivan in gear and back up," said Rosenfeld.
The minivan was removed from the CVS wall and towed, leaving behind the carnage of a scene that was hard to explain.
"One never knows, does one?" said passerby Susan Anderson of Boynton Beach.
Zeiler will not face charges. She was taken to the hospital with neck and back pain.
No one in the store was injured.
