BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - Two people are dead after a fiery crash of a scooter and a vehicle early Sunday morning in Boynton Beach, according to Jaclyn Smith, spokeswoman for the Boynton Beach Police Department.

The accident happened around 6:46 a.m. near the intersection of Miner Road and Congress Avenue.

According to Smith, a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling north on Congress Avenue and the Vento scooter was traveling west on Miner Road when the Jeep struck the scooter. Police does not know which vehicle ran the red light at the intersection.

Smith said the scooter driver and his passenger were thrown from the bike and killed. Their identities were not released pending notification of next of kin.

She said the Jeep burst into flames after the crash.

Anyone who may have witnesses the crash is urged to contact Traffic Homicide Investigator Cory Gray at 561-742-6147.
