BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - A police chase in Boynton Beach ended in a crash Tuesday afternoon.
According to Boynton Beach police spokesperson Stephanie Slater, officers chased a vehicle northbound on Congress Avenue before the pursuit came to a crashing stop on Gateway Boulevard and East Ridge Circle in Boynton Beach.
"I was at work and I heard a big boom, and there was a truck on the side of my car," says Pam Beddeo. Her parked car was hit by the suspect vehicle.
The suspect fled his black truck and the chase continued on foot. Police caught up to him and arrested him.
The suspect was reportedly wanted for two alleged armed robberies at Publix stores in Boynton Beach and Delray Beach. An 87-year-old purse snatching victim suffered some back pain when the man reportedly threw her to the ground.
Slater says during the police chase, Abbott was trying to hit police cruisers with his car.
"Officers told me the driver was trying to swerve into their cars and then would decide last minute to turn the other direction," says Slater.
"All of a sudden I saw this black truck going about 80 mph. I was scared because if someone pulled out in front, it would've been a nasty accident," says Gene Fracassi, who witnessed the chase.
The suspect was identified as 24-year-old Tyler Preston Coleman Abbott. He has been charged with armed robbery and may face other charges.
This story has been updated to clarify that no police officers were involved in the crash.
