BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- Three people are dead and two others are in critical condition after a crash in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near the Woolbright Road exit, according to Tim Frith , spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol.

The three victims were identified as Andrew Hickey, Robert McHenry, of Deerfield Beach, and  Christopher Andrews, of Pompano Beach, according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported by Florida Highway Patrol around 10:18 a.m.

FHP officials said two people died when a truck was struck from behind by a swerving car.

Lt. Frith said the truck, which had five people in it, pulled into the emergency lane to change a tire.

Donna Bryan of the Palm Beach Safety Council says this is a tragic reminder to stay safe. "There seems to be a magnetic effect when people are pulled over to the side of the road."

She says everyone should call for  roadside assistance if they are in a disabled vehicle because professionals often have flashing lights and other warning equipment.  And she says if at all possible, your first safety instinct should be to pull into the right shoulder of the road or highway, not the left.

"If you have to walk and exit the highway or be away from your vehicle, you'll be able to away from the traffic," said Bryan.

Of the three injured, one person died later at the hospital, and the remaining two are in serious condition. All were taken to Delray Medical Center.

The driver of the car, Cheryl Lee Daugherty, 42, of Oakland Park, has a suspended license, according to the FHP. Charges are pending at this time.

According to a news release from the highway patrol, Daugherty, for unknown reasons, "lost control and veered sharply to the west crossing three northbound lanes."

Northbound lanes of Interstate 95 at Woolbright Road were temporarily closed while authorities cleared the scene. All lanes have since been re-opened.

Motorists were redirected to the northbound ramp at Woolbright, to cross over and enter back onto I-95.
