BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- Boynton Beach police are investigating the murder of two boys early this morning by their father, who then killed himself, according to Boynton Beach Police Department spokesperson Stephanie Slater.

Police were called to a house at 431 S.W. 8th Avenue in Boynton Beach at 1:50am, by Victoria Flores Zavala, 36, who said that her husband killed their children.

When police arrived they found Isidro Zavala, 45, in the kitchen dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officers discovered one child dead in a back screened patio area. A second child was found dead in the kitchen dining room area.

Victoria Flores Zavala told detectives she was watching TV when she heard a commotion.

When she checked on the noise she saw Isidro Zavala choking one of his sons.

She said she tried to fight him off and begged him to kill her and not the children.

She says he told her that she would stay alive and suffer the loss of them.

The children are identified as Eduardo Zavala, 12, and Marco Zavala, 11.

The Zavalas have a 19-year-old son who does not live with his family and was not there when the killings occurred.

Detectives have obtained a search warrant for the house as well as another local house where Isidro Zavala had been living.

Zavala had been separated from his wife for some time and had not lived in the house with his children.

Spokesperson Stephanie Slater says that detectives have determined that Isidro Zavala went to the house with the intention of killing his two young sons and his estranged wife.

While processing the crime scene, detectives found a blue bag with a second firearm, a Tec9, and extra ammunition.

The bag also contained duct tape, cutting shears and an emotional note addressed to his oldest son dated Jan. 31, 2013.

Zavala was dressed in all black.

Detectives also found another note at his home dated Jan. 21, 2013.

Slater says it was been determined that Isidro strangled both of his sons with a rope.

He shot his son Mario several times before turning the gun on himself.
