BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - At least nine communities in West Boynton Beach say they're grappling with a seemingly endless string of power flickers.
"You can't feel secure," said Caryl Bokser of the Ponte Vecchio complex.
Whether it's her TV, computer or thermostat turning off without warning, the "annoyance factor" is high.
"It makes it hard to get anything done," she said.
The area's advocacy group, the Coalition of Boynton West Residential Associations, tells us nine communities have complained about it.
"In this house, if you don't have electricity, you're sitting and doing nothing," said Bokser.
It is a huge nightmare in housing complexes when the power goes out.
The gates all open so paramedics and police can get through in case there's an emergency.
In the security buildings, all the cameras go out.
And if you've got a lot of older residents, that's an even bigger concern.
"We have people who are 55 and over who have oxygen, who need medications, and they don't necessarily have generators at their home," said Stephanie Melrose, the president of the Mizner Falls HOA.
Mizner Falls reports four power flickers the last two weeks.
"First I want to apologize to our customers," said Bill Orlove, a spokesman for FP&L.
He blames the problem on overgrown vegetation on feeder lines and on new equipment they're still trying to get right.
"There are crews working on addressing minor issues with equipment put in those lines and that should be done by the end of the month," said Orlove.
Good, residents say, because they're tired of hitting the reset button.
"I want to feel like we are not living in a third world in West Boynton, because sometimes it really feels that way," said Melrose.
