BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - A man is waiting for his first appearance in court, charged with armed robber in Boynton Beach.
Leroy Strothers, of Boynton Beach, turned 31 years old Saturday morning, having been arrested just before 9 p.m. the night before.
Police say a person matching Strothers' description approached a man and his girlfriend near 1005 N. Seacrest Boulevard and offered them "weed."
The couple told investigators they declined the offer to purchase marijuana and the man left, but returned 20 minutes later and pointed a gun at them. The man swatted at the suspect, and ran in fear for his life. That's when, the victim said, he heard the clicking sound of a pulled trigger.
With the help of nearby residents and a K-9, officers found Strothers at a nearby home. They found a .22 caliber revolver in the grass along the fence line of Poinciana Elementary School.
