BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- Boynton Beach police have released the 911 calls made before an officer-involved shootout Tuesday that left a man dead.

Officer Eric Reynolds and Officer Chris Munro shot and killed Calvin Wallace, 52, of Boynton Beach, during a shootout that unfolded at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Northeast 9th Avenue, according to Boynton Beach police spokesperson Stephanie Slater.

Slater said the incident began at about 4:45 p.m. when officers were alerted to be on the lookout for a red car with a white top. According to police, inside that vehicle was someone possibly connected to an armed robbery at a Chase bank in Delray Beach.

Reynolds and Munro spotted Wallace's vehicle on Federal Highway minutes later and took extra precautions to pull it over, Slater said.

Investigators said Wallace crashed into an elderly woman’s car on NE 9th Avenue and Railroad Avenue, opened the driver’s side door of his red Lincoln town car and opened fire on Reynolds and Munro.

"The person inside the car began shooting at our officers," said Chief Matthew Immler. "Our officers, two of them, heroically got out of their vehicles and exchanged gunfire with the suspect, killing him."
