Eddie Fisher: 59-year-old Oklahoma diver dies after rescue

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - Autohorities have released the name of the diver who did not surface near the Lake Worth Inlet and later died.

Eddie Fisher, 59, of Oklahoma, was meeting a family member in Florida and went on the diving trip this afternoon, Palm Beach County Sheriff's Sgt. Dieter Joseph told The Palm Beach Post.

Fisher was found Thursday afternoon after a search lasting more than three hours.He was on the commercial diving ship Sirena and failed to surface just before noon.

Coast Guard crews from Miami and Lake Worth were involved in the search. The Coast Guard used its rescue helicopter and 33-foot boat to comb the water and search for Fisher.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit and three master divers from the vessel Sirena also took part in the search.
 
As the master divers from the Sirena were completing one final dive around 3:18 p.m., one of them located the missing man in approximately 70 – 75 feet of water.

He was placed in the Sirena and given CPR.

He was brought to the Riviera Beach Marina where Riviera Beach Fire Rescue continued to render aid. They transported him to St. Mary's Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
 
Fisher initially disappeared about two-miles off of the Lake Worth Inlet.
