Boca Raton firefighters extinguished a fire early Tuesday that caused approximately $150,000 in damage to a sushi restaurant, authorities said.
A passerby who saw smoke rising from the Yokohama Sushi Restaurant at 60 North Federal Highway dialed 911 about 4:30 a.m.
Firefighters put out the blaze that consumed the restaurant's kitchen area and prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining businesses in the shopping center, said Assistant Fire Chief Michael Gergora.
There was no one in the restaurant at the time of the fire.
The fire remains under investigation, but it is believed to have originated with the gas stove, he said.
