BOCA RATON, Fla. - A minor tornado touched down west of Boca Raton just before 6 p.m. Saturday, officials reported.
The storm was reported in the Camino Del Mar housing development, east of Powerline Road between West Camino Real and Southwest 18th Street. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said there was no one injured and no major home damage.
There were reports of a tree down, roof shingles on the roadway and a vehicle disabled.
"It was a brief and very weak tornado," said Andy Tingler, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Miami. "It lasted maybe five minutes."
Tingler said it formed around Powerline and Southwest 18th, worked across some houses and a golf course, and then disappeared on the south side of the golf course. He said it was created by a rush of air from a thunderstorm.
Funnel clouds also were reported in Delray Beach and Doral, but no other storms touched down, he said.
A Flood Watch continues for South Florida, except the Treasure Coast, on Monday with more potentially heavy rain expected.
