BOCA RATON, Fla. - Three men armed with sledgehammers smashed jewelry cases in Saks Fifth Avenue at the Boca Raton Town Center Mall an hour before closing Thursday, police said.
"No one was injured," Boca Raton Police Officer Sandra Boonenberg said of the incident that happened at 8 p.m.
Shopper Dawn Gaynor, 45, from west of Boca Raton , said she just was about to enter Saks north entrance about a half hour after the robbery when employees closed the doors on her.
"I'm scared," Gaynor said, but added the smash and grab wouldn't keep her from returning to the store Friday.
The suspects fled in a black vehicle from the mall, which is on the south side of 5800 Glades Road.
It was not yet clear what baubles were stolen, Boonenberg said, because the investigation was still being conducted Thursday night.
