A person was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center after sustaining serious injuries after being struck by a train in Jupiter, said Captain Albert Borroto, spokesman for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.
A 2003 Lexus SUV driven by 46-year-old Vivian R. Schwartz was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 441 approaching SW 3rd Street, west of Boca Raton, at 1:21pm Friday afternoon.
A 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by 91-year-old Thomas Giordano had stopped at a red light in the eastbound turn lane and was beginning a turn onto SW 3rd street when Schwartz failed to stop at the red light and entered the intersection, violently impacting Giordano's vehicle.
Giordano and his passenger, 89-year-old Brenda Giordano, were transported to Delray Community Hospital where Thomas Giordano expired in the operating room from the injuries he received in the crash.
Schwartz and her passenger were transported to West Boca Medical Center.
