BOCA RATON, Fla. - A man was arrested in by Boca Raton police in Port St. Lucie Thursday after allegedly trying to shoot his ex-girlfriend, according to a police report.

Dalis Bell was charged with attempted first-degree murder with a firearm, burglary with assault/battery and felon in possession of a firearm, according to the report.

Andrea Miller, the victim, and her boyfriend Kunta Kinte Riddick, told officers that Bell, Miller’s ex-boyfriend, had spoken briefly to Miller over the phone in the morning. Miller said she eventually turned her ringer off and did not speak to him again.

Shortly after 7 a.m., Miller and Riddick told police they heard a loud knocking on their front door, but did not open it because the peephole was covered. They said Bell then kicked it open and entered the apartment, where he and Riddick wrestled to the ground until Bell was asked to leave.

The report says Bell then left to retrieve a firearm from his vehicle and returned to the stairs leading to the apartment. Miller told police that as she was closing her front door, Bell fired a round from his handgun.

The report says the shot went through the door and past Miller’s head. Miller was not injured.
