BOCA RATON, Fla. - The latest labor report puts the country's jobless rate at 7.8 percent, which is down from 8.1 percent a month ago.
Republicans and Democrats debate how those numbers might impact the presidential election, but one local worker doesn't care about the politics, she's just happy to have a paycheck.
For four and a half months, Sandy Cimbaro sat behind a computer, clicking and scrolling through job websites looking and hoping for work.
"There are days when you just think, 'Why are you not qualified or chosen for the position when you meet all the qualifications when you send in the resume,'" Cimbaro said.
Her unpaid job was finding a job.
"Not having that income is hard when the larger expenses come up. You wonder how you're going to pay those," Cimbaro said.
To pay those expenses she opened up a credit card.
Now she's finally working to pay it off.
She's the marketing and communications coordinator at the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce.
"It's nice," Cimbaro said about being back to work. "I do social media and do email blasts and my graphic design experience helps with that."
It takes her out of the pool of people who are unemployed.
Currently the rate is 7.8 percent, which is unexpected by many, but not Cimbaro, who has been seeing a lot of ribbon cuttings taking place at the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce.
It means more work for people like her to land, which helps bring in more income to help Cimbaro pay off the emergency credit card.
"Yes, we have started that," Cimbaro said. "And we're also saving. We're going to get some kayaks and start kayaking."
