A technician with a home-alarm company was charged after allegedly trying to steal more than $40,000 worth of jewelry from a Boca Raton woman's home during an alarm installation, police said.
Jason Michael Adams, 37, was working for Safe Streets USA, a company that had been subcontracted by ADT to install alarms at the Ibis Pointe Circle home of a 50-year-old Boca Raton woman, according to a Boca Raton police arrest report.
On Monday at about 11 a.m., the homeowner saw Adams rummaging through a jewelry chest in her bedroom and yelled at him. According to police, Adams claimed to be looking for a panic button. His colleague, Jason Proskurin, rushed in to see what was going on as the victim ordered Adams to empty his pockets.
Adams dropped a necklace and cross pendant to the floor. He also tried to steal two watches, one valued at $32,000, police said.
Adams was charged with larceny and booked in at the Palm Beach County jail. He was released early Tuesday on a $5,000 bond.
