BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) -- A service is being held for a former Palm Beach County Sheriff.
A sheriff's office press release says Sheriff Charles McCutcheon served from 1995 to 1996. He was as the 13th sheriff of the county.
Authorities say he began his career as a patrol officer at the Delray Beach Police Department in 1954. He went on to work as a deputy constable in the county and continued his career in law enforcement at the Boca Raton Police Department. He became police chief in 1970.
Sheriff McCutcheon eventually joined the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. In 1995, he was appointed to sheriff of Palm Beach County where he served until his retirement on Dec. 31, 1996.
Funeral services were held Friday. The service will be held Saturday in Boca Raton.
