BOCA RATON, Fla. - A group of Muslim and Jewish students plans to meet on Monday to talk about what's happening in Gainesville.
The pastor a small church plans to burn copies of the Koran to mark 9/11.
The South Florida students want to promote community awareness about the importance of respecting other religions and cultures.
FAU's Muslim Student Organization and the Jewish Student Union in conjunction with the Hillel Center of Broward and Palm Beach County say their meeting is important because it's a way for students to bridge the gap between the two religions.
Meeting organizers believe it will serve as a good learning experience. "I think it's a teachable moment. I think it's an important moment for us to take a step back and to learn from each other and to understand why this is so wrong and why we have to respect each other," said Scott Brockman, the executive director of the Hillel Center of Broward and Palm Beach County.
At the meeting they'll read from both holy books and free lunch will be provided.
The meeting is set for Monday September 13th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at FAU's Jewish Student Life Center.
