SUBURBAN BOCA RATON, Fla. - An 89-year-old Boca Raton woman was killed Sunday afternoon while trying to cross Glades Road at U.S. 441 in suburban Boca Raton.
Rosalind Pantell was attempting to cross the road around 12:26 p.m. when she was struck by a 2000 Honda Odyssey minivan driven by 42-year-old Hossein Ghani Banki, also of Boca, according to a media report by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Banki had stopped at a red light in the right travel lane on westbound Glades Road. After seeing that the green turn arrow allowed him a right turn onto 441, he moved into the right-turn lane and tried to make the turn when he felt something was wrong with his vehicle, the report said.
According to witnesses, Pantell was in the crosswalk but had fallen to the ground prior to Banki changing lanes and he could not see her, the report stated.
Pantell was taken to Delray Medical Center where she later died.
The incident is under investigation.
