BOCA RATON, Fla. - An 82-year-old Boca Raton woman was critically injured when the car she was driving went out of control and crashed into a canal on Thursday, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

It happened at 10:22 a.m. as Stiera Glick tried to make a U-turn from a left turn lane on eastbound Yamato Road, east of Lyons Road in Boca Raton, according to the accident report.

During the U-turn, Glick accelerated without warning, traveled through the westbound lanes and entered the north shoulder. Then, the 2004 Lexus ES330 re-entered and crossed the east and westbound lanes and continued traveling in a southwesterly direction, the report stated.

Ultimately, the Lexus reached a canal running parallel to Yamato Road, and the car went airborne. It crossed the canal and hit the opposite canal bank before coming to rest back in the water, investigators said.

The lone person in the Lexus, Glick, was seriously injured during the crash and was hospitalized in critical condition, authorities said.
