BOCA RATON, Fla. - Little Primo, the family dog, is barely breathing after the ordeal. His owner, a 29 year old woman is dead and her boyfriend was found unconscious in the upstairs bedroom.

"It's awful, they're going to have to investigate it to find out what happened," said Jan Frydman, who lives just a few doors down.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Deputies checked on the house after the man's family called 911, saying they could not get a hold of him.

After being there only a few minutes, firefighters knew something was wrong.

"They just had their equipment, they started to feel lightheaded, and confused, they said something isn't right," said Captain Terry McCabe with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.

"It's under investigation, but again it could've been a neighbors car," said Captain McCabe.

Firefighters found Primo hiding under the bed, now his bloodstream is filled with the deadly gas.

"He's not conscious he's still having seized activity," said Doctor Sarah Duncan, with PetPB, an Animal Emergency and referral center.

Loxahatchee Doctor Byron Reid donated his hyperbaric chamber to keep the dog alive, but he is far from safe.

"He needs two to three treatments in the next 24 hrs and were trying to get donations to pay for the others," said Duncan.

A tragic incident first responders say the incident could have been avoided with a carbon monoxide detector.

This incident is still under instigation, fire rescue is trying to determine the source of the carbon monoxide, whether this was the result of a car left running or something else.

If you would like to help Primo, you can make donations through PetPB. Their number is 561.752.3232.
