BOCA RATON, Fla. - A Boca Raton woman has been identified as one of four South Florida residents injured during Sunday morning's deadly traffic pileup near Gainesville.
Candice Grams, 21, was transported to Shands at the University of Florida medical center in Gainesville with minor injuries, according to a Florida Highway Patrol crash report.
Grams was a passenger in a 2008 Honda Accord that was also occupied by three women from Broward County. The car's driver, Jennifer Deustch, 19, of Parkland, sustained serious injuries, the report said. Passenger Stacey Krause, 21, of Parkland also sustained serious injuries, while passenger Michelle Deustch, 21, of Parkland sustained minor injuries.
According to the report, their vehicle was one of 10 that crashed on northbound Interstate 75 at about 4 a.m. Sunday. Heavy smoke from a brush fire and reduced visibility contributed to the crashes, FHP said.
In all, 10 people were killed in multiple crashes that occurred Sunday morning on north and southbound I-75. At least 18 were taken to area hospitals.
