The strangers that showed up at the Mizner Park shopping area in Boca Raton made some customers and merchants skeptical.

Although parking had always been free, parking meters were installed to raise revenue without raising taxes, according to the city. But after only a few months in, there are surprising results.

According to WPTV's news partner, the Sun Sentinel , the number of citations issued and the revenue created have exceeded expectations through mid-July:

  • $1700, average daily parking revenue
  • $1200, average daily parking revenue Mizner Park
  • 1,100, average monthly citations issued
  • 650, average monthly meter-related citations
  • 450, average monthly non-meter-related citations, like parking in handicapped spaces or over a line

Some familiar faces have been among those caught breaking the rules. The Sentinel reports that the mayor and two city council members have been cited.
