BOCA RATON, Fla. -- It was a hit-and-run that turned into hide and seek.

A witness who watched a speeding SUV hit a parked car in Boca Raton told police the driver tried to hide from him after he watched her race into a parking garage.

According to an arrest report, the man saw the driver of the silver SUV turn on to Southeast First Street from South Federal Highway Thursday just before 8 p.m.

The SUV took the turn widely, hitting a silver Kia parked on the street. The witness yelled for the driver to stop, but the vehicle sped off toward a parking garage on Plaza Real South, police said.

The witness heard the SUV squealing around the turns in the parking garage. There was also a loud crash.

The witness looked up to the garage and could see the SUV parked on one of the upper levels. He yelled at the driver again to come back down, that she had hit somebody else's car.

Instead of heeding the witness request, the driver tried to hide behind one of the walls, police said.

The witness also told police that the driver continued to peak out from behind the wall to see if the witness was still watching.

When officers from the Boca Raton Police Department arrived, they found the driver, later identified as Abigail Martiz, stumbling toward her vehicle, police said.

Martiz told cops she was not involved in any crash, the arrest report said. Police then pointed out the damage to Martiz's vehicle, which looked as if it had hit one of the poles in the garage.

Police told Martiz she was being investigated for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Martiz told police she had been golfing with friends at the Ocean Breeze Golf Club in Boca Raton. She was driving a friend home. She told police she'd had two Amstel Lights, then three or four Amstel Lights.

Martiz was given a series of tests to determine if she was intoxicated. Police said she couldn't maintain her balance, stand on one leg, or recite the alphabet. She also couldn't touch her finger to her nose.

Police then put Martiz in handcuffs. She was cited for driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.
