The stolen $5,000 Rolex made its way from Boca Raton to Miami to Peru.
When the man who bought the Rolex Submariner on eBay found out Boca Raton police detectives were looking for it, he called them and agreed to send it back from South America.
Now Boca Raton police are looking for the victim's former roommate, who they suspect stole the watch and sold it.
Detectives had been searching for the watch since March, when the owner reported two $5,000 Rolexes missing, police said. He told detectives he thought his former roommate, Arthur Braun, had stolen them.
But Braun was nowhere to be found, and Boca Raton police looked for the watch at pawnshops throughout South Florida.
They later found out that a man who knew Braun bought one of the Rolexes from him for $200, thinking it was a replica. When he found out it was real, he sold it on eBay for $3,161 to a man in Miami, according to police.
Detectives followed the watch's path to Miami and found out that the man who bought it, Michel Ipenza, lived in Peru. His friend in Miami took the watch to him during a recent trip.
Ipenza called police and agreed to return it, even though eBay would not refund his money because the 45-day purchase return window had passed.
This week, Boca Raton Police filed arrest warrants for Braun, 24, on a charge of dealing in stolen property.
