BOCA RATON, Fla. - The 23-year-old Brazilian national who has been squatting inside a $2.5 million dollar Boca Raton is being evicted.
WPTV NewsChannel 5 has learned Bank of America filed a legal complaint with the civil court in Palm Beach County asking a judge to remove Andrea De Paula Barbosa and other unnamed tenants from the property on 580 Golden Harbour Drive.
Residents in the area rejoiced when hearing about the development but did not know when the eviction would take place.
NewsChannel 5 reached out to the Boca Raton Police Department which said they typically do not handle these matters, the sheriff's office does.
Calls to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office were not returned immediately on Friday.
According to law, Bank of America must first give a three-day notice. The bank then must take the notice to the clerk's office and file for eviction. The sheriff's office then give the tenant a summons. The tenant then has five days to file an answer. If the tenant does not answer, the sheriff's office then can evict the tenant in 24-hours after missing the response deadline.
Authorities estimate it could be a few days before any action is taken given that Bank of America filed the paperwork on January 23, 2013.
