OKEECHOBEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A 15-year-old Okeechobee teen spent his birthday in the Okeechobee County jail after being arrested Thursday for bringing a BB gun on a school bus, deputies said.
A school resource deputy received a tip Thursday afternoon claiming a student was in possession of a gun.
Okeechobee sheriff's deputies said they arrested the teen after finding him in possession of an unloaded .177 caliber BB gun.
The teen told deputies he had brought the BB gun so that he could sell it. But authorities said the teen pointed the BB gun at another student.
“This young man knew better than to bring this weapon to school," Okeechobee Sheriff's Office Undersheriff Noel Stephen said. "It is a very realistic weapon that could be thought to be a real pistol. This type of action cannot be tolerated in our communities or school settings."
The teen was transported to the Okeechobee County Jail and faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
