A Tampa Bay area man has been sentenced to death for fatally stabbing a woman in her home. A Pasco County judge sentenced Derral Wayne Hodgkins on Friday. He was convicted in August 2011 of first-degree murder.

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY, Fla. -- An inmate died at the Okeechobee County Jail Sunday.
Okeechobee County Sheriff's deputies responded to the jail around 10:32 p.m. after reports that an inmate had died. The inmate was later identified as 29-year-old Derrick Lamont Rose.
Rose was incarcerated in the Okeechobee County Jail since July 14, 2012 for the offenses of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, possession of marijuana less than 20 grams and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Rose was due to be released on April 4, 2013.
The exact cause of his death will be determined by the St. Lucie County Medical Examiner's Office.
Sheriff Paul C. May commented on his death, saying, “My condolences go out to the family of this gentleman.”
