FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities say the ex-husband of a missing Lee County teacher has been arrested outside a motel in Okeechobee.

Fort Myers television station WINK reports 44-year-old Daniel Proctor was arrested after U.S. Marshals found him sleeping in a car about 3:45 a.m. Monday. Authorities say Proctor will be turned over to Lee County officials.

Proctor's ex-wife, 41-year-old Amy Patterson, has been missing since late July when she didn't show up for work at Mariner Middle School. Last week, authorities said she is presumed dead.

Officials believe Proctor fled to Madison, Ala., where he has family, before returning to Florida.

School officials reached out to Proctor when Patterson didn't show up for work. He became a suspect after his story that she had died in a car crash fell apart.
