Man arrested in Tequesta after running over girlfriend's foot with truck

TEQUESTA, Fla. - An 60-year-old man was arrested in Tequesta on Sunday after an off-duty police officer saw him run over his girlfriend's foot with his truck during an argument.

Harold Lee Hayes, of Vero Beach, is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail without bond. He is facing the charges of DUI, domestic battery and reckless driving.

Hayes was taken into custody after the off-duty officer, who witnessed the incident, intervened and called for back up.

The officer told Tequesta Police that at 1:50 p.m., he was at the County Line Plaza in the 700 block of U.S. 1 North in Tequesta when he saw a man, who was later identified as Hayes, cross the street as he was being chased by two women.

As Hayes hopped into his black pick-up truck, one of the two women demanded that he go back into one of the businesses and pay the tab.

The officer overheard Hayes say "no" and then saw him hit the woman with his pickup's door as he closed it, according to the arrest report. Hayes then backed out of the spot he was parked in and ran over the woman's left foot, knocking her to the ground, the report stated.

The woman, who was later identified as Hayes' live-in girlfriend, was treated for her injuries at the scene.

Hayes chose to not undergo a field sobriety test but blew a .111 and .112 when a breath alcohol test was administered at the jail, the report says.
