TEQUESTA, Fla. - Phew, we can breathe a sigh of relief, Tequesta police have caught a boa constrictor which was reported missing by its owner on Friday.

According to Cpl. Ray Korkowski, dispatchers received a phone call around 7:15 a.m. on Saturday saying that the boa constrictor had been spotted at the corner of Riverside Drive and Tequesta Drive, where police caught it a few minutes later.

The seven- to eight-foot snake had traveled three blocks west from its home at 400 Tequesta Drive when caught, Korkowski said.

The snake was last seen on Friday in the area of Tequesta Drive between Seabrook Road and Riverside Drive. It's owner told police the snake was friendly. It was last fed on Thursday.

Police suspect the snake slithered out of its cage, which was kept on a back screened enclosed porch.

Boa constrictors live in tropical climates throughout most of Central and South America. They get their name by the method in which they kill their prey – by wrapping their body around the prey and constricting, or squeezing tightly.
