TEQUESTA, Fla. - A 29-year-old man suspected of pulling a string of car burglaries with his 49-year-old mother as a lookout is in jail after being picked up by authorities on unrelated charges, Tequesta Police Department spokesman Lt. Jason Turner said Friday.
Tequesta Police said Andrew Uhland had been eluding authorities since early January, when he fled his home as they interviewed his mother.
Deborah Uhland was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail Jan. 5 on charges of vehicle burglary, grand theft and using stolen credit cards, Turner said. She was released on $3,000 bond four days later, according to Palm Beach County Jail records.
Her son, Andrew, was picked up by Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies Wednesday afternoon and is being held on an out-of-county warrant, jail records show.
"During questioning, Andrew confessed to the vehicle burglaries committed with his mother in our jurisdiction," Turner said in a statement released Friday.
Back in January, police reported that Deborah Uhland confessed to being a lookout while her son entered unlocked vehicles and stole various items - including wallets, iPods and credit cards.
The duo would use the stolen credit cards to buy gift cards and cigarettes, and to fill family vehicles with fuel. Their acts were captured by numerous video surveillance cameras throughout the city, Turner said.
