A 19-year-old Pompano Beach man wanted in connection with a shooting Saturday was arrested Sunday morning at a residence off Northlake Boulevard.
Sheriff’s detectives from Palm Beach and Broward counties took Scott Chery into custody at a friend’s home, where he traveled to after the shooting.
Chery will be charged with attempted murder, said Dani Moschella, Broward County sheriff’s spokeswoman. The man he shot, Trentny Leak, 26, remains in serious condition at North Broward Medical Center.
The shooting happened around 5:40 p.m. Saturday after a dispute among family members and friends at a residence in the 200 block of Southwest Eighth Street in Pompano Beach.
Detectives said Chery boarded a Tri-Rail train in Broward County minutes after the shooting and headed north. Broward detectives identified him as the shooting suspect and released his photo to the public. They worked through the night with detectives at the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to locate Chery, finding him at the friend’s home in the 3500 block of Burma Circle, about one-half mile east of Interstate 95 and just outside the city limits.
