PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL -- Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center and Delray Medical Center were the only two South Florida hospitals named among "America's 50 Best" by a Colorado-based organization called HealthGrades.

According to the organization's website, HealthGrades uses a two-step process to identify hospitals which provide consistently high-quality care.

During the period from 2006 through 2008, these facilities, they say, had a 27% lower risk-adjusted in hospital mortality, performed 8% better in in-hospital complications, and  improved at a greater rate for risk-adjusted mortality.

HealthGrades rates hospitals based on quality outcomes (risk-adjusted in hospital mortality and complication rates).

The goal, they say, is to provide consumers with objective, comparative information on hospitals so they can make more informed healthcare decisions.
