PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - Life without their loved ones has been tough for a Riviera Beach family devastated by last year's murder-suicide that claimed six lives.
16 year-old Ryan Barnett, a sophomore at William T. Dwyer High School, was shot but survived.
Ryan's road to recovery is progressing thanks to the support from his family, friends and the community.
A benefit fundraiser, "Ryan's Cause," will take place Wednesday at Nordstrom Court at The Gardens Mall from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The charity event sponsors include BRIO Tuscan Grille at The Gardens Mall, The Gardens Mall and UBS bank.
Barnett celebrated his 16th birthday four days after his three brothers, one sister and mother were shot and killed by their stepfather who also killed himself on September 27, 2010.
Ryan was shot in the neck, had surgery, and has been on the road to recovery for nearly five months.
Outside of counseling, physical therapy and school work, Ryan says he keeps his daily routine simple. As Ryan continues to heal mentally and physically, he is already thinking about life after high school.
"I wanna' go to UF and get my bachelors and then get my MD," Barnett said in an interview last October.
Wednesday night's charity event will feature food from Brio, a silent auction and live entertainment. Event tickets are $20 per person.
