PALM BEACH, Fla. --One person is in custody Wednesday morning after police discovered 80 to 100 bricks of marijuana -- worth roughly $2 million -- aboard a boat that came ashore in Palm Beach, according to a police spokesperson.
Fred Hess, who is the spokesperson for the Palm Beach Police department, said firefighters in a fire truck were driving on North Ocean Boulevard around 6:30 Wednesday morning.
While they were driving they spotted a boat on the beach and when they went to check it out found drugs inside, Hess said.
Palm Beach Police officers then began an investigation with the assistance of the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
A man wearing a polo shirt, who hasn't been named, was taken into custody while walking along the beach.
"He gave a story that he was from Fort Lauderdale," Hess said. "He had a fight with his wife and just decided to take a walk up here."
The Border Patrol identified the man as a Bahamian citizen who did not have valid U.S. immigration documents.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection took the drugs, the person in custody and the boat into their possession for the rest of the investigation.
