SINGER ISLAND, Fla. - A group who decided to celebrate a 14th birthday out on the water got a little more than they planned today.
The U-S Coast Guard came to their rescue when their 44-foot boat started taking on water just after noon, near the Lake Worth Inlet. In all 12 children and 5 adults were rescued.
"No one was hurt, everyone made it off the boat okay. Keith Ward, who rented the boat for his son's party said.
"Everybody was safe, there was never an issue with the safety the kids listened and did what they needed to do to stay safe. Got off the boat and it turned from rescue mission to a salvage mission and trying to save the boat when everybody was off," Ward said.
Ward said his favorite hat, camera and other personal belongings were on the boat.
