JUPITER, Fla. -- The Town Council of Jupiter plans to discuss the future of a piece of land along Military Trail that many seniors call home.
A developer is interested in making the mobile home community of Whitehaven into a mixed residential and commercial space.
Council members are considering changes to zoning for the area and what potential changes could mean for the surrounding homes and businesses.
Many residents who rent space in the community are elderly, disabled or on a fixed income. Some have expressed fear and concern that if the proposal is approved, they won't be able to afford new rent prices nor withstand the strain of the move.
The developer says it is working to accommodate the wants and needs of renters. Some moving expenses would be covered for residents. At least one community has offered assistance to residents who move to its space.
A second reading of proposed zoning changes will occur Tuesday at 7p.m.
