JUPITER, Fla. - Two people nearly drowned Sunday afternoon, around 2:03 p.m. in Ocean Cay Park in Jupiter, said Captain Albert Borroto, spokesman for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.
When crews arrived, they were told that two people were missing and the lifeguards were looking for them. One of the swimmers was located quickly, while the second swimmer was located a short time later in critical condition, Borroto said.
Teri Barbera of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office says that a rip current played a part in the near-drownings that took place Sunday afternoon.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, Coast Guard and the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office participated in this search, Borroto said.
Both of the patients have been transported to Jupiter Medical Center.
