JUPITER, Fla. - The wife of a Jupiter attorney has been arrested on a charge of first degree murder in the death of her husband Lanny Horwitz.
Thursday afternoon, 65-year-old Donna M. Horwitz was booked into the Palm Beach County jail. She is expected in court Friday morning.
According to police, her husband Lanny Horwitz was found face down in the bathroom with a gun in his right hand on Friday, Sept. 30.
"We originally thought suicide," said Sgt. Scott Pascarella of the Jupiter Police Department.
Detectives soon discovered clues in the Admiral's Cove home that lead them to believe something much different happened.
"We had a lot of suspicion," said Pascarella.
According to police, a large amount of blood was found around the victim, along with small suitcases all packed up and two revolvers that had each fired five bullets.
Police said a closer examination of the victim's body revealed several gun shot wounds with indications the firearm had been placed directly into the victim's mouth.
The 4-page police report reveals the couple's own son, Radley Horwitz, was home during the incident. He told police he was awoken by gun shots, then saw his mother, Donna, pacing back and forth in the living room. When he asked her what had happened, she replied, 'He was so awful.'
Radley told authorities his father's bags were packed because he was going on a business trip overseas with a female business partner. He speculated that his father may have had a possible relationship with the woman.
Horwitz told police that after the incident, he observed blood drops on his mother's foot and provided her with napkins to clean it off.
