UPDATE: Indiantown Road has reopened to traffic and the gas leak has been repaired.
EARLIER STORY:
JUPITER, Fla. -- A gas leak on Indiantown Road in Jupiter has resulted in the evacuation of a Duffy's restaurant and shopping plaza.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue units arrived at 225 East Indiantown Road around 3 p.m. after a worker accidentally hit an underground natural gas line while digging a hole.
Indiantown Road between the Intercostal and Alternate A1A has been closed to traffic.
TECO gas company is on the scene working to stop the leak. The affected line is 3 to 4 inches long.
Fire rescue spokesperson Albert Borroto said units are doing checks of the air around the plaza businesses at this time.
The Duffy’s restaurant and businesses have been evacuated for safety.
