JUNO BEACH, Fla. - A 59 year-old man was arrested Thursday evening in Juno Beach after police say he opened fire at a police car.
Police encountered Wayne Smith, 59, around 11 p.m., after responding to a call of a suspicious man armed with a rifle, or a shotgun, walking around Universe Boulevard and U.S. 1, according to Jupiter police spokesperson Scott Pascarella.
Upon arrival, Pascarella said the man shot several times in the direction of an officer but “no gunfire was exchanged and no one was hurt.”
Palm Beach Gardens police, Jupiter police SWAT and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's helicopter were called to assist.
U.S. 1 was temporarily closed between Donald Ross Road and PGA Boulevard, Pascarella said.
After setting up a perimeter, police eventually arrested Smith near his home off of Uno Lago Drive around 12:15 a.m.
