Deadly crash on Florida's Turnpike

A woman died Monday afternoon after losing control of the sports utility vehicle she was driving on the northbound lanes of the Florida's Turnpike between the Beeline Highway entrance ramp and the northbound overpass, according to Lt. Tim Frith, spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol.

Frith said the woman was driving a 2003 Hyundai SUV northbound when she lost control of the vehicle, hit a light pole and swerved approximately 100 feet north finally crashing against a concrete wall.

The vehicle burst in flames upon impact, Frith said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

He said the woman was not the owner of the vehicle. Her name is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
