Young Palm City woman dies after crashing into tree

A 24-year-old Palm City woman died early Sunday morning after crashing the 2002 Jeep Cherokee she was driving into a tree in Martin County.

Mindy Nicole Kennard was traveling east on Martin Highway CR-714, two miles west of SW Buckskin Avenue, when her vehicle drifted in a northerly direction into the westbound lane of Martin Highway. She continued to drive in a northerly direction and into the grassy shoulder of the highway, crashing into a tree, according to a media release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident happened around 3:45 a.m.

Kennard was declared dead on the scene.
