PORT SALERNO, Fla. — One of the three men who was injured Friday when a mobile home they were working on fell on them has died.

Jonathan Sheaffer, 38, of Coconut Creek, died from injuries sustained after a double-wide mobile home the men were installing in Hidden Harbor Estates collapsed on top of them, according to a Sheriff's Office incident report released Monday.

A witness described hearing a crack in the concrete blocks before the house fell.

A man working on the site quickly used a forklift to raise the mobile home off the injured men, a witness said.

Sheaffer, who was the most critically injured of the three men, was purple, vomiting and gasping for air when a Martin County Fire Rescue crew arrived.

Sheaffer was taken to Martin Hospital South, where he later died.

Martin County Sheriff's Office is conducting a death investigation and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is looking into site conditions, which is routine following a death at a job site.

A second man, who was trapped near the rear of the house, was able to scoot from underneath the structure when it was lifted. It is unknown where the third man was when he was trapped. The conditions of those men were unknown Monday.
