William Snyder sworn in as Martin County's new sheriff

STUART, Fla. -- There's officially a new sheriff in Martin County.

William Snyder took the oath of office Tuesday morning in front of hundreds of supporters outside the Sheriff's Office Headquarters in Stuart.

Snyder, who has spent more than three decades in law enforcement, is the eighth sheriff in the county's history.

He replaces Bob Crowder, who retired after 20 years.

After three terms as a state legislator in Tallahassee, Sheriff Snyder said he came back because he loves protecting people.

"Every man or woman has to follow their first love and law enforcement is just me," he said.

Despite four high ranking officers retiring from the department, Snyder said it will not change or affect the overall mission of the sheriff's office to keep county residents safe.
