STUART, Fla. - A Martin County firefighter is in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Burn Center in Miami, after suffering burn injuries while fighting a fire in Stuart Thursday morning.
Jahwann McIntyre, 22, and other crews responded to a fire at 1151 SW Bluewater Way at around 2:30 a.m.
McIntyre and two others made a mayday call while inside the house.
They were pulled out, but McIntyre is now fighting for his life.
McIntyre has been with Martin County Fire Rescue for a little more than a year.
"The two firefighters with Jahwann along with the rapid intervention team all worked together to get him out very quickly," said Bill Schobel, Martin County Fire Rescue Bureau Chief.
Martin County Fire Rescue has been updating its facebook page throughout the day with McIntyre's condition.
Hundreds are already leaving their thoughts and prayers on the page.
Many of the firefighters made the trek down to Miami to be with McIntyre and his family.
"I got the call this morning that my house was burnt down to the ground," said Aaron Grosko, who used to live at the home but hasn't stayed there for weeks.
The home is listed as a foreclosure property.
Crews have not yet determined a cause.
