STUART, Fla. - Three men were arrested at the Valero gas station in Stuart Sunday morning in possession of $1,200 worth of stolen fuel, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

Jerome Holmes, along with his brother Tyrone Holmes and Calvin Shields, stated to officers that they traveled from Miami to steal fuel when Deputy Glenn Muse noticed their vehicle parked at the closed station.

The three were in possession of a 300-gallon plastic tank, full of diesel fuel, and several five-gallon gas cans with the tops removed. They stated during the investigation that they removed the diesel fuel from the pump where they initially were parked and had planned on filling the five-gallon cans and their vehicles with gasoline before returning to Miami, according to police reports.

All three defendants were charged with Grand Theft ($5,000 bond) and were taken to the Martin County Jail. Shields remains in custody. Tyrone Holmes and Jerome Holmes posted bond and were released from custody Sunday.
