MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. -

Florida Fish and Wildlife investigators are looking into the death of an elderly man, whose body was floating in the waters off Stuart.

Around 1:30 Monday afternoon, the body of 67 year-old Mario Hudson of Stuart was discovered by Martin County Sheriff Marine units south of Joe's Point in the Indian River Lagoon.

Investigators say Hudson and another man had rented paddle boards this morning and were out in the blustery conditions.

"Unfortunately, he got separated from the group and on a bad day like this he did not have a life jacket on at the time," said Officer Amanda Phillips with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

No foul play is suspected but the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is in charge of the investigation because a paddle board is considered a vessel.

Paddle boarders are required to have life jackets with them, but are not required to wear them.
